Madrid's mobile clean points extend stopping hours in each neighborhood [1676]

Madrid approved this Thursday at the Government Board the tender for the new contract for operating services for the clean, fixed and mobile points, which will have an execution period of five years. The new contract aims to collect domestic and commercial waste that, due to its characteristics, cannot be collected by ordinary municipal waste collection services as it requires specialized treatments and is carried out through the municipal waste collection network. clean points. "In this way, the City Council offers a new boost to the circular economy pursued by the Madrid 360 Environmental Sustainability Strategy," explained the delegate of Urban Planning, Environment and Mobility, Borja Carabante.

One of the new features of the new contract will be the increase in the hours of the mobile clean points, which will go from 90 to 120 minutes per stop, and the extension of the service to the afternoons from Monday to Friday and the mornings of Saturdays and Sundays. In addition, nine new locations are added, bringing the total to 360. At the same time, the working conditions of the operators are reorganized, who will now provide service from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

This contract will also create a new 24-hour mobile clean point system to meet the needs of the weekly markets in each district. These are specific containers, with several compartments to deposit various types of waste, which will remain all day in the vicinity of the markets when they are held.

Exchange of bulky and electronic objects

Another novelty provided by the contract is the possibility of exchanging bulky waste and electrical devices at ReMAD, a free object exchange service located at municipal clean points. This novelty will mean improvements to the fixed clean points to adapt the reception of this electrical waste to safety regulations regarding storage, as well as the creation of two new reuse centers to exclusively accept this type of waste.

Currently, Madrid has 16 fixed collection points that incorporate the free ReMAD second-hand item exchange service, and 351 mobile collection point locations, to which are added another 70 local collection points.
