Daily Resource: Dash- The Fun Way to Learn Programming

Today’s daily resource comes from the creative problem solvers at?General Assembly. If you’re a designer with 0% programming knowledge,?but have 100% willingness to learn, then Dash will teach you?HTML, CSS and Javascript through levels of?fun projects.

Dash isn’t new, the online service has been around since late 2013, but the idea is?still very functional?for basics – which is to make learning new things, stick.?Through Dash, you can immediately see?your coding efforts appear as you are guided through tooltips and zany characters. The service also allows you to view your project across platforms, simulating both smartphone and computer browsers.

There are 5 projects and you start off with the basics – creating?a small personal website, then moving on to a responsive blog, a small business site, a CSS robot, then finally a Madlib’s Game.?Throughout the entire process, you’ll unlock various skills as you pass along checkpoints, and like a game, there’s a story behind all of this.

General Assembly’s chief product officer Brad Hargreaves explained to The Next Web that by using this method of learning, people were more likely to enjoy the process and stay motivated than they would using abstract texts.

So far I’m halfway through Project 1, and I must say that I’m pretty excited. All five?projects are free to use, and only require that users sign up using Twitter or their email address.
